Impressive large French Louis XV revival oak dining table dating from about 1870.
Made from solid oak with acanthus leaf hand-carving on the frieze and cabriole legs. This is a very rare table as it was made as one piece 400 cm long x 138 cm wide, not with an extendable top which was the standard practice.
The prominent oak medullary rays give the table a beautiful grain pattern brought out by wax re-finishing; fully restored, solid structure.
The undulating frieze allows for plenty of leg room as do the gigantic Y stretchers and ornate central column, crafted to allow ample leg room regardless of seating position.
The table is believed to have come from a vineyard / chateau, evidenced by the dark "angel's share" staining (or tannins / red wine?) on the understructure.e...
